AirAsia, Malindo cancel all flights to Wuhan

LOW-COST carriers AirAsia Group Bhd and Malindo Airways Sdn Bhd have suspended international flights to Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, China.

In a statement yesterday, AirAsia said all of its flights from Kota Kinabalu, Bangkok and Phuket to Wuhan have been temporarily cancelled until Jan 28.

The airline also advised guests who are in Wuhan to comply with the directions issued by the government and health authorities, and to contact their respective diplomatic missions or embassies in China for assistance.

“Guests are also encouraged to check their flight status at airasia.com/flightstatus for live updates,” it added.

Updates by AirAsia are available on its social media platforms at Twitter (@AirAsia), Facebook facebook.com/AirAsia, or its support team at support.airasia.com.

Meanwhile, Malindo Air said in a statement that its suspension of flights was in response to the travel ban by officials in Wuhan following the coronavirus outbreak. The cancellation, it said, is aimed at ensuring the safety, security and comfort of air travel for the flight crew and passengers.

The airline urged passengers with valid booking for travel between Jan 23 to Feb 8 to contact its call centre at +603 78415388 or walk-in to its ticketing office for further assistance.

“In the meantime, we are also monitoring the current situation in Wuhan very closely and will provide the latest development to our passengers on our website accordingly.”

Earlier yesterday, Malaysia’s Health Ministry had announced that China has imposed a quarantine on Wuhan in the wake of the coronavirus.

According to Bernama, South Korea’s national flag carrier, Korean Air Co Ltd also announced the suspension of its flights to Wuhan after the Chinese authorities decided to ban most inbound and outbound flights on domestic and international routes at the airport there starting today.
