KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) has been placed on high alert to scan all international flight passengers entering Sabah in light of the coronavirus outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, a statement said.
Sabah Minister of Health and People’s Wellbeing Datuk Frankie Poon, Sabah Health Director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi and Health Department officers inspected the ministry’s facilities at KKIA at 3am Thursday.
“Datuk Frankie Poon wanted to know first-hand and experience the inspection procedures to ensure that every international passenger and crew member are duly scanned by the thermo scanner at KKIA before immigration clearance,” said the ministry’s statement.
“In fact, we started screening at the disembarking point after the aerobrige before the immigration clearance areas for flights from Wuhan effective Jan 4.
“Therefore, these extra vigilant measures are necessary in view of the recent outbreak of coronavirus. Isolation will be carried out immediately once a suspected condition is discovered or detected in a passenger in order to prevent or avoid the spread of any virus.
“Currently, there are no reported cases of coronavirus in Sabah.”
